AICTE Gets Former IIT Guwahati Director as New Chairman

T.G. Sitharam, former Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, has been appointed as the new chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

He comes as the replacement of UGC chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar who was the position holder since the retirement of former AICTE chairman Anil D. Saharabudhe.

Post his appointment, Sitharam is committed to creating an ecosystem of transformative education for Indian students to enable them to become future leaders and innovators through new knowledge, helping build a sustainable society.

He also intends to make India into a global educational hub by increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio.

Mr. Sitharam has previous experience working on multidisciplinary issues that focus on solving societal challenges across various areas. He has held several administrative positions at institutions like IIT, IISc, and CI.

He has also been a part of many boards and has more than six years of engagement with AICTE. He possesses immense experience in leadership roles and in managing academic groups and programmes, startups, research centres, and entrepreneurial activities.

Sitharam will also focus on collaborative programs with international institutions and research centres to create an industry co-innovation network to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
